My video editor is too slow: what's a normal turnaround and what should I do?

Direct answer: Two to three days after the footage arrives is normal: editing services that publish a turnaround promise 48 hours, 1 to 2 days or 48 to 72 hours. With me the first video takes 1 to 5 days and the next ones usually 1 to 2. If yours is slower, agree a written deadline first, then test someone else.

What turnaround do editing services publish?

These are the turnarounds written on each service's own page when I read them on October 15, 2026 (all sources are linked in the editing cost calculator). They are promises, not measured delivery times, and several carry an asterisk or depend on complexity.

ServicePublished turnaround
Editvideo.io48 hours
Tasty Edits48 hours (horizontal videos)
Vidchops1 to 2 days, "guaranteed" with an asterisk
Increditors1 to 2 days for YouTube
Dava Studios48 to 72 hours
VidprosOvernight, with an asterisk, depending on complexity
Video Editing CompanyPriority turnaround of 5 business days on its Scale plan

So for a normal long-form video, 1 to 3 days from the moment the footage and the brief are complete is the common promise. A first video usually takes longer, because the editor is learning your style.

Why does an edit take that long?

Turnaround is calendar time, not editing time. In my own planning ranges, a 10-minute commentary video takes about 8 to 12 hours of work and a 20-minute gaming video 20 to 40 hours, roughly 0.7 to 2 hours per finished minute. An editor with several channels spreads those hours over days. Four things on your side add days too:

What should I do if my editor is too slow?

  1. Measure it. For the last 5 videos, write the date the footage was complete and the date the draft arrived. Now you are discussing days, not a feeling.
  2. Check your side against the four points above.
  3. Agree a deadline in writing, per video, counted from complete footage: for example, draft in 2 days, each revision in 1. Ask what happens when it is missed.
  4. Test a second editor in parallel on one video with the same footage and brief, before you end anything.
  5. Replace only after a missed written deadline, and keep the project files: see how to switch editors without losing a week.

Talk or replace?

Talk first if the delays started recently, if your footage often arrives late, or if the edits are good and only the timing hurts. Replace if a written deadline is missed twice, if you only hear back when you chase, or if revisions take longer than the first draft. A rushed deadline usually costs more: one guide I read on October 15, 2026 quotes a 25% to 50% premium for urgent edits (Veedyou).

How it works with me

The first video takes 1 to 5 days depending on complexity, and the next ones are usually delivered in 1 to 2 days, counted from when the footage and the brief are in. Every revision comes back within 24 hours. A 24-hour turnaround is sometimes possible, depending on my calendar; ask before you book. I usually reply within a few hours, and you can start with a free 1-minute test edit on your own footage.

My price: $55–$150 per finished video depending on complexity; up to $300 for some long or complex edits.

Quick answers

My video editor is too slow: what's a normal turnaround and what should I do?

Two to three days after the footage arrives is normal: editing services that publish a turnaround promise 48 hours, 1 to 2 days or 48 to 72 hours. With me the first video takes 1 to 5 days and the next ones usually 1 to 2. If yours is slower, agree a written deadline first, then test someone else.

What is a normal turnaround for a YouTube video editor?

One to three days after the footage and brief arrive. On October 15, 2026, Editvideo.io and Tasty Edits published 48 hours, Vidchops and Increditors 1 to 2 days, and Dava Studios 48 to 72 hours. First videos usually take longer.

My editor keeps missing deadlines: replace or talk?

Talk first: measure the last 5 videos, check your footage arrived complete, and agree a written deadline per video. If that written deadline is missed twice, test another editor on one video in parallel, then switch and keep your project files.

Can I get a YouTube video edited in 24 hours?

Sometimes. Some services publish overnight or 24 to 48 hour options, often depending on complexity, and rush work usually costs more. With me, 24 hours is sometimes possible depending on my calendar; ask before booking.

Does a faster editor cost more?

Often. One 2026 pricing guide (Veedyou, read October 15, 2026) quotes a 25% to 50% premium for urgent turnaround, because the editor pauses other work.
