How to edit Roblox obby videos: stages, towers and troll traps
An obby recording is a course: stages, checkpoints, obstacles and a lot of falling. The edit turns that course into a story with a beginning, a hard middle and a finish worth waiting for. This guide is about the course itself, what to keep, how to show it and how to make each fall matter.
How do you edit a Roblox obby video?
Map the course first: list every stage, then pick the few that carry the video and turn the rest into a quick pass. Show each new obstacle once from a clear angle, keep the stage or floor number on screen, show what every fall costs, set up troll traps before they spring, and let the finish play at real speed.
The steps:
- Map the course before you cut.
- Introduce each new obstacle with one clear shot.
- Edit for the type of obby you recorded.
- Show what every fall costs.
- Set up troll and ragebait moments before they spring.
- Pace the climb: alternate hard, funny and fast.
- Mix obby sound so it does not repeat itself.
- Let the finish breathe, then build the thumbnail from the course.

I edit Roblox obby and tower videos for Rex & Alexa: 20 of the 126 videos I have cut for them since July 2025 are obbies or towers.
Step 1: Map the course before you cut
Before you trim anything, scrub the recording once and write a stage list: stage or floor number, timestamp, and a one-word note. New, repeat, hard, funny, troll, skip. A 50-stage obby is not 50 beats. Many stages repeat an obstacle the viewer has already seen, and those become a fast pass with the stage counter ticking up.
The stages worth full time are the ones that add something: a new kind of obstacle, a stage that took many attempts, a funny fall, a moment where the duo argued or helped each other. Mark those and build the video around them. Everything else is the connective tissue between them.
The list also tells you where the video sags. If you have six featured stages in the first half and one in the second, the second half needs to move faster or the order of the hard moments needs work.
Step 2: Introduce each new obstacle with one clear shot
A viewer cannot feel a hard jump they do not understand. The first time a new obstacle appears (a spinning bar, disappearing tiles, a kill brick floor, a conveyor), give it one readable shot before the player tries it:
- A wider angle. If the player’s camera is too close to show the gap, use the other player’s POV, which often sees the jump from behind.
- A short pause or slow push-in on the obstacle, a second or two, so the viewer reads the danger.
- A label only when the rule is not visible. “Red tiles kill you” helps; “JUMP” over a jump does not.
After the first time, the viewer knows it. The second spinning bar can go by in two seconds.
Step 3: Edit for the type of obby you recorded
“Obby” covers several formats, and each needs a slightly different cut. Titles from the Rex & Alexa channel show the range:
- Classic stage obby (“ROBLOX SCOOTER OBBY WITH ALEXA!”). Horizontal, checkpoint to checkpoint. The stage counter carries progress.
- Tower (“ROBLOX SWING TOWER WITH ALEXA!”). Vertical. Height is the stakes, and the big moment is a long fall back down. Show the height, not just the floor number.
- Troll tower (“ROBLOX SQUISHY TROLL TOWER WITH ALEXA!”). Fake platforms and traps. The edit is built on setup and reveal (Step 5).
- Co-op or physics obby (“ROBLOX BREAKABLE CART OBBY WITH ALEXA!”, “ROBLOX DRAW TOGETHER OBBY WITH ALEXA!”). The two players depend on each other. Cut for cooperation: show what one player does and how it helps or ruins the other.
- Choice tower (“ROBLOX WOULD YOU RATHER TOWER WITH ALEXA!”). Each floor is a decision. The beat is the choice and its result, so give the decision a moment before the outcome.
- ASMR tower (“ROBLOX ASMR TOWER WITH ALEXA!”). The sound is the hook, which changes the mix (Step 7).
Decide which one you are cutting before you start. A troll tower cut like a classic obby wastes its best moments; a co-op obby cut from one player’s screen loses half the joke.
Step 4: Show what every fall costs
A fall only matters if the viewer knows what was lost. In a classic obby, it is a few stages back to the last checkpoint. In a tower, it can be several floors or the whole climb. Make the cost visible:
- Freeze or hold the fall. A beat at the moment the player slips, then let the fall play.
- Show the counter drop. “Floor 14” to “Floor 6” on screen hits harder than any sound effect.
- Cut to the other player. In a duo, the player still up the tower watching their partner fall is often the funniest shot.
- Skip the walk back. Respawning and climbing the same floors again goes in a few seconds. The viewer already saw those floors.
Big falls are the moments people remember, so do not cut them short. A long tower fall can hold four or five seconds with the reaction on top.
Step 5: Set up troll and ragebait moments before they spring
Troll towers and ragebait obbies (“ROBLOX TREES HATE YOU OBBY WITH ALEXA! (RAGEBAIT)”) are built on traps the player does not see coming. The viewer should see a little more than the player, or exactly as much, never less:
- Show confidence first. The player says the stage looks easy, or lines up a jump calmly. That is the setup.
- Let the trap spring at real speed. No warning sound, no zoom before it. The surprise is the point.
- Hold the reaction. The rage or the laugh after the trap is the payoff. Give it room.
- Replay once if it was fast. A quick replay, slowed or from another angle, lets the viewer see what happened.
If one player is trolling the other (pushing, flinging, blocking a jump), cut to the troller just before it happens so the viewer is in on it. That turns a random fall into a joke.
Step 6: Pace the climb: alternate hard, funny and fast
Obby videos lose people in the middle, when the novelty of the course has worn off and the finish is still far away. Use the stage list from Step 1 to alternate:
- a hard stage with real attempts,
- then a funny moment or a troll,
- then a fast pass of several easy stages with the counter jumping.
Three hard stages in a row feel like a grind; three fast passes in a row feel like nothing is happening. Put a new music section where the course changes theme or difficulty, not on a timer. If the obby has a halfway point (a world change, a new color zone), mark it with a short title card, which also gives you a chapter point.
Step 7: Mix obby sound so it does not repeat itself
Obby games repeat the same few sounds hundreds of times: the jump, the death sound, the checkpoint chime. Left at full level, they become noise. Lower the repeated game sounds, keep the death and checkpoint sounds only where they mark a real moment, and keep both players’ voices on top.
ASMR towers are the exception. There the in-game sounds are the content, so bring them forward, keep the music low or out, and let the voices sit a little lower than usual. Either way, measure the export in the free YouTube loudness checker before upload: a quiet ASMR section next to a loud fall is easy to get wrong.
Step 8: Let the finish breathe, then build the thumbnail from the course
The last stage or the top of the tower is what the title promised. Play it at real speed, hold the moment the player reaches the end, and let both reactions land. Then end quickly: a short win card and out.
For the thumbnail and title, name the course, not just the game. On October 19, 2026, nine of the top 15 YouTube results for plain “roblox obby” were POV workout warm-ups that use obby footage, not gaming channels. A title that names the twist (“BE A BALLOON OBBY”, “TREES HATE YOU OBBY”) stands apart from that. In the thumbnail, show the obstacle that defines the course and both players in a duo, then look at it at phone size in the thumbnail preview tool.
How long are Roblox obby videos in 2026?
| What was read | Videos | Shortest | Median | Longest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kat tower and obby videos in a “roblox tower obby with friend” search | 11 | 12:04 | 13:23 | 20:01 |
| Kat, last 12 uploads (all formats) | 12 | 11:14 | 15:17 | 24:53 |
| Maizen, last 12 uploads (Roblox and Minecraft) | 12 | 10:02 | 18:21 | 41:31 |
Measured on October 19, 2026. The Kat search results include her duo videos with other creators. The obbies I cut for Rex & Alexa run longer than these: the three in that channel’s latest 12 uploads were between 16 and 28 minutes, measured on October 18 for the Roblox challenge editing guide. A short, tight obby and a long duo run are both normal; the length follows how many stages are worth showing.
Common mistakes in obby edits
- Cutting stage by stage from the start. Map the course and pick the stages first.
- Obstacles the viewer cannot read. One clear shot the first time.
- Falls with no cost. Show the counter drop and the reaction.
- Warning the viewer about a troll trap. No zoom or sound before it springs.
- The same jump sound 300 times. Lower repeated game sounds.
- A title that only says “Roblox obby”. Name the twist.
Obbies I have cut
Rex & Alexa is the channel where I cut the most of them: a Roblox duo, and obbies and towers are a regular format there. A few of them (view counts from my YT Jobs profile): ROBLOX FAT AND SKINNY OBBY WITH ALEXA! (416.47K), ROBLOX NEEDOH TOWER WITH ALEXA! (209.55K), ASMR GUN TOWER WITH ALEXA! (ROBLOX) (153.23K), ROBLOX MY WORM OBBY WITH ALEXA! (149.8K) and ROBLOX BE A BALLOON OBBY WITH ALEXA! (113.33K).
Earlier I cut obby videos for other channels too: Everytime I fall In Roblox Obby, I Expose a SECRET.. for HyperCookiie (179.91K), Slap Tower funny moments for Mr. Marticson, and SKATEBOARD OBBY ROBLOX ADVENTURE: Numberblocks Unlock 14’s HIDDEN Portal for BloxWorld TV (239.87K), a kids’ story video set in an obby. The Roblox obby and challenge editor page explains my process for this niche, the Roblox challenge guide covers rules, stakes and 24-hour formats, and the Roblox video editing guide has the platform-wide basics.
Roblox obby videos: common questions
How long should a Roblox obby video be?
Usually 12 to 25 minutes. On October 19, 2026, eleven of Kat’s tower and obby videos in a YouTube search ran 12:04 to 20:01 with a median of 13:23, and the obbies I cut for Rex & Alexa run 16 to 28 minutes. The length should follow how many stages are worth showing.
Should you cut out the failed attempts in an obby video?
Keep the first attempt at a new obstacle, any fall that is funny or costly, and the reaction. Cut the respawns and the walk back to the stage. Repeated identical fails can go by in a few seconds with the counter on screen.
How do you show progress in a Roblox tower video?
Keep the floor number on screen in the same place all video, and show the height, not only the number. When the player falls, show the counter drop and cut to the other player watching.
How do you edit a Roblox troll tower?
Show the player confident first, let the trap spring at real speed with no warning zoom or sound, hold the reaction, and replay it once if it was too fast to read. If one player is trolling the other, cut to the troller just before it happens.
What should a Roblox obby video title say?
Name the twist of the course, not only the game. Plain “roblox obby” searches on October 19, 2026 were mostly POV workout videos. Titles like “BE A BALLOON OBBY” or “TREES HATE YOU OBBY” tell the viewer what makes this course different.
