Where should I hire a YouTube editor?

Use YT Jobs when you want editors whose YouTube work the channels confirmed. Use Fiverr for a one-off, fixed-scope edit with payment held until you accept. Use Upwork for ongoing work with milestone or hourly records. Reddit and Discord cost nothing to post on but check nothing. Hire directly once you have verified the record and written the terms down.

Most "where do I find an editor" advice skips what matters after you click hire: who checks that the editor did the work they claim, who holds your money, and what happens if the first video misses. Those three things differ a lot between platforms, and they should decide where you look.

How do YT Jobs, Fiverr, Upwork, Reddit, Discord and direct hiring compare?

Fees and rules change. The fee, payment and vetting rows come from each platform's own public pages, linked in the sources section at the end, as they read on October 15, 2026. The Reddit and Discord columns were checked on October 3, 2026, and the Fiverr gig prices on October 4, 2026.

What does an editor really cost on each platform?

The editor's price is not what you pay. Fiverr and Upwork add a client fee on top of it, and over a year of weekly uploads the difference adds up. Type the price your editor quoted and how many videos you publish a month; the table updates as you type.

Example above: a $150 edit, four videos a month. Fiverr comes to $161.75 a video and Upwork's Basic plan to $161.99, about $564 to $576 a year more than paying the same editor with no platform in between. On small orders the fixed $3.50 weighs more: a $60 edit costs $66.80 on Fiverr (11.3% on top) and $64.79 on Upwork Basic.

Fees as read on each platform's own help pages on October 15, 2026, rounded to the cent per payment. Payment-processor fees (PayPal, card, bank) are not included on any row. YT Jobs sells optional paid features to channels, such as the Discover & Hire subscription; that is a subscription, not a fee per video, so it is not in the table. Fiverr's $3.50 is per order under $200, so one order per video is assumed. How does hiring on YT Jobs work?

YT Jobs is built only for YouTube roles: video editors, thumbnail designers, scriptwriters, channel managers, strategists, producers and creative directors. Its homepage says it is "trusted by 3000+ YouTube creators" and lists "141K+ talent" (read on October 15, 2026). You can post a job and let editors apply, or search profiles yourself.

Vetting. This is where YT Jobs is different. An editor adds videos to a portfolio, and the channel that published each video confirms or denies the collaboration from its own account. According to the YT Jobs FAQ, channel confirmation is "the only way to verify a collaboration," and a denied video comes off the editor's portfolio. Badges reflect the size of the verified channels (for example, Gold for channels over 1M subscribers, Silver for over 100K), and the "Recommended" and "Highly Recommended" labels require at least 5 and 10 verified clients with a great average rating. Editors need at least six portfolio videos before they can apply to jobs.

Payment. YT Jobs does not hold money. Its FAQ says payments "are handled directly between clients and talents," and it recommends both sides use protective measures. So on YT Jobs you get strong evidence about past work, but the deal itself works like a direct hire.

What to check before hiring on YT Jobs:

1. Open the videos the channels confirmed, not just the badge. Look for videos in your format and length, and check which role the editor had on each one.
2. Read the reviews from verified clients and look for specifics about communication and deadlines.
3. Remember that portfolio view counts update periodically, not live, according to the FAQ.
4. Because payment is off-platform, agree scope, revision rounds and deadlines in writing before the first file changes hands.

What does a verified record look like?

Badges summarise; the videos are what you check. On YT Jobs, each portfolio video shows whether the channel confirmed it. How does hiring on Fiverr work?

On Fiverr you buy a defined service. Editors publish Gigs with set packages and optional extras, and you pay at checkout, before the work starts. Some Gigs ask you to send a request first, and editors can also send you a custom offer based on your brief.

Vetting. Reviews are left after orders are accepted. Fiverr also runs Fiverr Pro, where it describes freelancers as a "hand-vetted group of professionals," shown with a Pro badge.

Payment and protection. Fiverr charges you the price plus a service fee: 5.5% of the purchase, plus $3.50 for orders under $200. After the editor delivers, you have three days to accept the delivery, request a revision, or extend the review by up to five days. If you take no action, the order completes automatically, and a completed order can no longer be canceled through the Resolution Center. Editors can also share drafts before the final delivery, which is useful for catching a wrong direction early.

What to check before hiring on Fiverr:

1. Read the package, not the thumbnail: maximum footage length, finished video length, number of revisions, delivery days, and whether project files are included.
2. Send your brief and a reference video before ordering, and ask for a custom offer if your video does not fit a standard package.
3. Put the review deadline on your calendar. Three days goes fast when you are filming.
4. Keep feedback on the order page, which Fiverr recommends so there is a clear record.

How does hiring on Upwork work?

Upwork is organized around contracts. You post a job, receive proposals or invite freelancers, and then choose between a fixed-price contract (paid by milestones) and an hourly contract (tracked time).

Vetting. Upwork's Job Success Score measures client satisfaction, contract outcomes and long-term relationships, and is updated daily over 6, 12 and 24-month windows. Upwork says a score of 90% or above often leads to Top Rated status. It is a useful signal about reliability, but it is not specific to YouTube, so you still need to check the editor's actual videos.

Payment and protection. On a fixed-price contract you fund each milestone before work starts (minimum $5), the editor submits work for your approval, and you can ask for changes or request a refund. If you neither approve nor request changes, funds are released to the editor 14 days after submission. On hourly contracts you can see the editor's work diary and dispute the previous week's hours if they are not related to your project. The Client Marketplace Fee on the free Basic plan is up to 7.99% of payments, or 3% if you are in the U.S., qualify, and pay from a bank account.

What to check before hiring on Upwork:

1. Look at past contracts that were actually video editing, ideally YouTube, and ask for links to the published videos.
2. For edits, a fixed-price milestone per video is usually clearer than hourly; it ties payment to a deliverable you can watch.
3. Review each submission inside the 14-day window.
4. Budget the marketplace fee into your per-video cost.

When does hiring a YouTube editor directly make sense?

Hiring directly means you find the editor through a referral, their own site, social media or a portfolio you saw, and you work together without a marketplace in the middle. It makes sense when:

• You have already verified the editor's work, through channels you can confirm, a public record like YT Jobs, or a paid trial.
• You plan to work together on many videos, so the relationship matters more than a one-off transaction.
• You want to communicate in the tools you already use (a shared drive, Frame.io, Discord) rather than a platform inbox.

The trade-off is simple: nobody holds the money and nobody mediates a dispute. You replace that with your own structure.

What to set up before hiring directly:

Can you hire a YouTube editor on Reddit?

Yes. Subreddits such as r/VideoEditors_forhire, r/YouTubeEditorsForHire, r/VideoEditor_forhire and r/CreatorServices exist for this: creators post the editing work they need and editors post what they offer. Reddit does not check anyone's past work or hold the payment, so you verify the editor and set the terms yourself.

On r/VideoEditors_forhire, a public listing of recent posts shows them labeled [FOR HIRE] when an editor is offering their services and [Hiring] when someone is looking for an editor. Each subreddit has its own posting rules, so read them before you post.

What to check before hiring on Reddit:

1. Write a specific post: your channel, the format and length of the video, one reference video whose pacing you like, and your deadline. The YouTube editor job post template has one ready to copy.
2. Ask every editor who replies for links to published videos on channels you can open, and which role they had on each one. Videos on a YT Jobs profile that the channel has confirmed are stronger evidence than a reel.
3. Look at the account itself: how old it is and what it has posted before.

Can you hire a YouTube editor on Discord?

Yes. Many video editing servers on Discord have job or commission channels where creators post the work they need and editors reply. Discord does not check portfolios or hold payment, so it works like hiring directly: confirm the editor's past videos, agree the terms in writing and start with a short test.

You can browse public communities in Discord's server directory at discord.com/servers. For example, a server called "video editors" listed 147,609 members on October 3, 2026, and describes "employment-based channels" for commissions and long-term work next to channels for editing help. Its description is about short edits for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, so look for people who show full long-form videos in your format.

What to check before hiring on Discord:

1. Read the server's rules for job posts and use the format it asks for.
2. Anyone can claim anything in a chat message, so ask for links to published videos on channels you can open, or videos on a YT Jobs profile that the channels confirmed.
3. Keep the agreement in writing: what you send, what you get back, how many revisions and by when.
4. Pay per video, only after a free or paid test you have seen, through a method that leaves a record.

Is YT Jobs legit for hiring a YouTube editor?

Yes, as a place to check an editor's record. A portfolio video on YT Jobs only counts as verified when the channel that published it confirms the collaboration from its own account, and channels can deny false claims. YT Jobs does not hold payments, so you still set the terms yourself.

YT Jobs' own FAQ answers with a yes, calling itself "a trusted platform used by over 500,000 creators and professionals", but that is the company speaking. These are the parts you can check yourself:

1. Channel confirmation. The FAQ says confirmation by the channel is "the only way to verify a collaboration," and only the channel can change a video from Denied to Verified. Channels can verify their YouTube channel on YT Jobs through Google's official method.
2. A way to remove false claims. If a talent claims a channel's video without having worked on it, the channel can deny it from its Talent Review section, which removes the video from the portfolio. You can also use "Report this Talent" on any profile.

4. What it doesn't do. Payments happen directly between the channel and the editor, and portfolio figures are updated periodically, not live.

How do I compare editors from different platforms?

Profiles, badges and scores tell you about past work. They do not tell you how an editor handles your footage. The fairest way to choose between candidates, wherever you found them, is to give each one the same short piece of raw footage and the same brief, then judge the results side by side.

1. Pick one to two minutes of raw footage that looks like a normal video for your channel, not your easiest or hardest section.
2. Write the same brief for everyone: what the video is about, one reference video whose pacing you like, and anything that must stay in or come out.
3. Watch every result on your phone at normal speed, because that is how most of your viewers will see it.
4. Send one round of notes to the strongest candidates and judge how the change comes back. Revisions are most of a long-term working relationship, so this step tells you as much as the first cut.
