How to start a GTA 6 YouTube channel in 2026, before launch day
Pick one angle (story playthroughs, tests and challenges, news and breakdowns, or RP on GTA V), test your console recording now, and publish a few videos before November 19 so the channel isn’t empty on launch day. GTA 6 is announced for consoles only and as single-player, so plan formats that need neither mods nor other players.
This guide is part of GTA 6 video ideas and launch plan.
The seven steps at a glance
- Pick one angle. Story playthroughs, tests and challenges, news and breakdowns, group comedy or RP: one you can repeat every week.
- Choose a name that outlasts one game. Named after you, not after GTA 6, and nothing that looks like an official Rockstar channel.
- Set up console recording now. A PS5 recording stops at 1 hour; test your capture and audio before November 19.
- Learn the ad rules. No graphic violence in the first seconds or the thumbnail, and no NPC massacre videos.
- Go long-form first. GTA on big channels is long; cut your Shorts from the same sessions.
- Publish before launch. A few videos before November 19 give the channel something to watch on day one.
- Keep a pace you can hold in December. And get help with the editing before footage piles up.
1. Pick one angle you can repeat every week
A channel is a promise about what the next video will be. Each of the six big GTA channels I read on October 13, 2026 keeps to one or two formats:
| Angle | Real channel | A recent upload | First GTA 6 video it implies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story and long playthroughs | Typical Gamer, 16.1M | “I Forgot How Good GTA 5 Was...” (3:52:55, 151K views) | Part 1, then the full movie |
| Tests and challenges | Jelly, 23.3M | “I Spent $10,000,000 on The NEW Police Car in GTA 5” (17:15, 54K views) | “I tested every way to…” in the first month |
| News, breakdowns and guides | GTA Series Videos, 4.14M | “GTA Online - The Stab City Heist (by ZM1774) | Community Mission Series” (14:39, 67K views) | A breakdown now, mission help after launch |
| Group comedy | VanossGaming, 26M | “GTA5 - Okay, NOW It's the Final Game Session!” (38:03, 1.8M views) | None yet: it stays in GTA Online, the GTA V one, until Rockstar announces multiplayer for GTA 6 |
| RP stories | LordKebun, 357K | “This Might Be My BEST HEIST GETAWAY...” (25:16, 59K views) | None yet: RP for GTA 6 isn’t announced, so it stays on GTA V |
Two things the sample shows. First, subscribers don’t carry a format on their own: Jelly has 23.3M subscribers, and five of his recent GTA 5 videos drew from 44K to 157K views. Second, most of them are not GTA-only channels: Typical Gamer’s last uploads also include Five Nights at Freddy’s and Marvel’s Wolverine, and Jelly’s include Minecraft. Only GTA Series Videos and LordKebun uploaded nothing but GTA in the 12 videos I read from each.
My reading: pick the angle you would still enjoy in month three. GTA 6 will bring a wave of new channels in launch week, and the ones that last are the ones with a format they can repeat.
2. A name that outlasts one game
- Named after you, not only after GTA 6. Five of the six channels I read are named after their creators, and four of those also upload other games; the sixth, GTA Series Videos, is named after the whole series, not one game. A name built only around GTA 6 gets stuck when the next big game arrives.
- Don’t look official. No Rockstar logo, no official artwork as your channel icon and no name that reads like Rockstar’s own channel: viewers should never mistake you for them. Common sense, not legal advice.
- Say it out loud and search it. Short, easy to spell, and not already taken on YouTube or close to a channel that is.
- Keep the game in the videos instead. “GTA 6” belongs in titles and playlists, where it helps search, while the channel name stays yours.
3. Set up console recording now, not on November 19
GTA 6 is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (Rockstar), so the setup starts from a console. What Sony’s own support page says about PS5 capture (PlayStation Support):
- A recording stops at 1 hour. You can also save from the last 15 seconds up to 1 hour of what you just played. A three-hour session comes out as several files, so number them in order as you go.
- 4K needs a compatible display. Check the capture settings before launch day, not during the first mission.
- Some scenes are blocked. The PS5 can leave scenes out of your clips, so check what your first session captured before you plan a story video around built-in capture.
- For long sessions, use a capture card. It records the console on a computer, without the 1-hour cut, and lets you keep your microphone on its own track (how to record for an editor).
Xbox Series X|S has its own capture options. I only quote Sony’s limits because those are the ones I could read on the maker’s own page on October 13, 2026.
4. Learn the ad rules before the first upload
Among the things that take ads away from GTA videos: graphic violence in the first seven seconds or in the thumbnail, and gameplay built around killing crowds of NPCs (YouTube). The full list, with music and the leaks to avoid, is in the 7-second rule guide.
5. Long-form first, Shorts cut from it
- Long is the GTA default. In the sample I read, the median GTA video ran 29.5 minutes (the full numbers).
- Mid-roll ads start at 8 minutes. Videos of 8 minutes or longer can carry them (YouTube).
- One session, several uploads. A long video from the session, then Shorts cut from its best moments: the session pays for both.
- Shorts on their own are a different channel. If you only want vertical clips, the angle, the pace and the audience change; for that comparison see long-form vs Shorts editing.
6. Publish before launch
A channel whose first upload goes live on November 19 competes on its first day with every GTA channel that already has an audience. Three or four videos before then give new viewers something to keep watching, and give you practice with your recording, your thumbnail template and your upload routine.
What to publish, week by week from now to December, is in the GTA 6 ideas and launch plan.
7. A pace you can hold, and when to get help
- Plan for December, not only launch week. One long video a week that keeps coming beats three in the first week and silence after. For the numbers on upload rhythm, see how often to upload in 2026.
- Count the editing hours honestly. A three-hour session cut to a half-hour video still means watching, logging and cutting all three hours; the general workflow is in the gaming editing guide.
- Get help when footage piles up faster than you can edit it. The signs: last week’s sessions still unedited, uploads later than you promised, or a launch-week plan that only works if you don’t sleep. Then split the work: someone edits the long videos and you keep the Shorts, or the other way round (where to find an editor).
FAQ
Is it too late to start a GTA 6 channel?
No, but starting before November 19 means a few videos and a tested setup on launch day. GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Can I record GTA 6 on PC?
Not as a PC game: Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version. You can still record the console on a computer with a capture card.
How long can a PS5 recording be?
Up to 1 hour per recording, according to PlayStation Support. For longer sessions, start a new recording each hour or use a capture card.
Should a GTA 6 channel post Shorts or long videos?
Both, with long videos first: on the big GTA channels I read, the regular GTA uploads had a median of 29.5 minutes. Cut the Shorts from those same sessions.
What should I name my GTA 6 channel?
Something short that isn’t tied only to GTA 6 and doesn’t look like an official Rockstar channel. Five of the six big GTA channels I read are named after their creators; the sixth after the GTA series, not one game.
Can I start a GTA 6 RP channel?
RP for GTA 6 hasn’t been announced. RP channels today play on GTA V servers such as NoPixel, so start there if RP is your angle.
